This week marks the first week of Dr. Lisa Walsh’s role as Avon Maitland’s Director of Education.
Walsh has worked in education for 27 years, serving as a classroom teacher, vice-principal, principal and superintendent, primarily in York Region. She has also taught teachers and leaders throughout her career as a professor in an Ontario faculty of education, as a Student Achievement Officer with the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat, and teaching Master’s level courses as well as Principal Qualification and Supervisory Officer Qualification programs. Her most recent role was that of Chief Assessment Officer at the Education Quality and Accountability Office, where she met regularly with educators from across the province and learned about using different types of data to strengthen education programs.
Overall, my approach to education is rooted in a belief that each student, regardless of his or her background, can succeed when schools have the right strategies in place.
“As I start my new role, my first priority is to meet with senior staff, trustees, school and system leaders, staff, teachers, educational partners, parents and students, to better understand our board’s strengths and areas for future development and growth”, stated Walsh. “A lot of great work has already been done here and I look forward to building on that foundation.”
A native of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Dr. Walsh is a graduate of York University (B.A.) and the University of Toronto, where she earned a Bachelor of Education, Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy.
Welcome Director Walsh!
