Kindergarten is one of the most important milestones in a child’s life.
Kindergarten registration begins next week and we recognize there are many parents of young children who want to know more about their child’s kindergarten experience.
The Avon Maitland District School Board kindergarten programs centre around the image of the child as competent and capable of complex thinking. This planning is built around the notion that a kindergarten classroom is a place of wonder, a place to explore the world, ask questions, develop theories, and present learning through many different modes.
A typical day in a kindergarten classroom begins with students signing in and taking responsibility for their belongings and routines. Greeted by their early learning team consisting of a teacher and a designated early childhood educator, the children typically choose which area of the classroom they wish to begin their play based inquiry time. Throughout these inquiry times, the educators work with small groups of students and individuals to provide precision teaching in developmentally appropriate literacy and numeracy skills.
At strategic times throughout the day, the children may be called to meet as a whole group in knowledge building circles or community meetings. At this time the educators support the students to share their learning, their theories and ideas so others can become excited about the learning that is happening across the room.
The Calling All Three Olds Kindergarten Registration begins this week, on November 1.
Parents should contact their local school book an appointment and pick up their registration package.
