From the Office of the Premier
This year’s Ontario winner of the Council of the Federation Literacy Award has helped more than 25,000 Ontarians improve their literacy and numeracy skills, opening doors to new job opportunities and career advancement.
Premier Kathleen Wynne recognized the LearningHUB for their innovative online programming that gives adult learners free access to more than 260 courses they can take at home at their own pace. The LearningHUB’s flexible programming helps eliminate geographic and personal barriers that may prevent people from participating in traditional educational programs. To help even more people seeking to improve their essential skills, the LearningHUB has also partnered with the Regional Literacy Networks and Employment Ontario service providers to develop resources for e-Channel, Ontario’s free online learning network.
Created in July 2004, the COF Annual Literacy Award recognizes one recipient from each province and territory for outstanding achievement, innovative practice and excellence in literacy. The award is presented by the Premiers to learners, educators, volunteers, community organizations and businesses for contributions in areas such as family, Indigenous, health, workplace and community literacy.
Helping people get the skills they need to advance their careers and succeed in the workforce is part of the government’s plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives.
“Essential skills and employment training sets people up for success in the workforce. The LearningHUB’s unique approach to online learning helps people realize their full potential by equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to get ahead. I am delighted to recognize everyone at the LearningHUB for their work in putting education and training within reach of so many people across Ontario.”
