Announcing the 2017 Excellence in Public Education Awards
Each spring, District 8 OSSTF and the Avon Maitland District School Board join together to present the Excellence in Public Education Awards. This year honourees will receive their awards at a banquet to be held at the Central Huron Community Complex, Clinton on Wednesday, May 3rd.
It is important that we take the time to celebrate the efforts of the individuals who make our schools better places in which to work and learn. Please consider submitting a nomination from one or more of the following categories using the form that follows. Your efforts are an essential element in the success of these awards.

Secondary School Awards Nominations accepted by OSSTF members only.
Student Nominees
Student nominees have made the most of their opportunities for self-development in their secondary school. They have contributed towards secondary school program, brought honour to the secondary school, or enriched the life of the secondary school or community in which they live. They may be students of any grade or level deserving recognition.
Teacher, Professional Student Services Personnel, School Administrators, and Support Staff Nominees
Teacher, Professional Services Personnel, School Administrators, and Secondary Support Staff nominees have encouraged excellence through their contribution to the school environment. They may have also been involved in extra-curricular, professional or community activities which promote the cause of public education.
Community Nominees
Community nominees should be individuals or groups who have been involved in activities related to education and have contributed to the excellence of the secondary school program. Community nominees are not members of District 8 OSSTF.
Education Support Staff Awards Nominations accepted by OSSTF members only.
ESS Non Secondary Nominees
ESS nominees, who work in all other AMDSB worksites, have encouraged excellence through their contribution to their workplace environment. They may have also been involved in extra-curricular, professional or community activities which promote the cause of public education.
Linda Clements Best Buddies Award
Awarded to two students in the Elementary panel who have become Best Buddies.
The two students value their similarities not their differences. Their friendship is based on mutual respect and acceptance. The Buddies have built a relationship within their community that enhances their social and academic confidence. They model social inclusion and have made a significant impact on each other’s lives.
Administration and Trustee Awards
Board nominees have made outstanding contributions to the excellence of the Avon Maitland District School Board school system. These nominations are generally submitted jointly by the administration and the Trustees.
Any member of District 8 of OSSTF may make nominations for an Excellence in Public Education Award in accordance with the previously stated criteria.
