A recruiting drive for host families is in high gear.
For the 5th consecutive year, the Avon Maitland District School Board will host international students from across the globe in 2017-2018. Just under 200 students will be spread out across our district in all 9 secondary schools.
We are actively seeking host families for these students in all communities of Huron and Perth. This is truly a great international experience for your family and for our visiting students from abroad. Host families also receive remuneration to offset additional expenses as a result of hosting a student. Most of the placements are for 12 weeks to one semester, though there are a few full-year placements.
Our international program is thriving and the homestay experience is key to its continued success. Our effort to bring international students to the district adds to our student numbers thereby diminishing the impact of declining enrolment, allows us to offer better programming in our high schools, protects and/or creates teaching positions, provides our students with a better understanding of the global society in which we live and establishes new lifelong friendships across the world.
