Thanks to the Western Ontario Athletic Association (WOAA), a special complimentary book will be hitting the library shelves of every Avon Maitland school this month.
The WOAA celebrated its 75th Anniversary this summer and one of the legacies of the Anniversary Celebration was the publishing of a historical book chronicling a portion of the history of the organization.
A book of stories, alumni, biographies, statistics and photos spanning eight decades.
“We hope that students will enjoy the book”, states John Thompson, coordinator for the WOAA 75th Anniversary Book. “It contains stories, alumni, biographies, statistics and dozens of photos of teams spanning eight decades of sporting competition.”
The WOAA was founded in 1942 to provide an organization for communities in Western Ontario to compete in hockey, softball and baseball.
Over the years, tens of thousands of youth from communities in Bruce, Grey, Huron, Perth and Wellington counties have enjoyed and benefited from athletic competitions organized by thousands of volunteers.
“We congratulate the WOAA on their 75th Anniversary and thank them very much for providing students with such a beautiful publication celebrating the rich history of community sport in our District.” – Dr. Lisa Walsh, Director of Education
