Ottawa Bound
Anna Desak and Sarah Frank, a pair of Stratford Central Secondary School students, have both been selected to be part of a group of 150 students from across the nation for an all expenses paid trip to Ottawa
The Stratford classmates earned spots on the trip by submitting projects focusing on what Canada can improve on over the next 150 years. They took on the optional assignment in February at the suggestion of their Grade 9 geography teacher, Jen Dowson.
Desak wrote an essay and created a piece of art with pen. She called her entry Destruction of Us, which focused on the use of neonics in Canada and its effect on the bee population.
Frank, who called her project 36 Million Differences, pushed for inclusion by producing a video.
“Different ethnicities, races, sexualities, abilities, just inclusion in general and become more of one Canada,” she said. “We can all make a difference in including others in our day-to-day lives and if we all did that we would have a different Canada.”
